On the fifth day, the patient comes to one of our clinics or hospitals for the stem cell collection. This is done by removing (harvesting) the stem cells from the patient’s circulating blood through a process called apheresis (from the Greek “aphairesis” for removal).
This process takes two to three hours and is pain free. Most patients take a nap during the procedure. A physician accompanied by a nurse oversees the safety and comfort of the procedure. If anything out of the ordinary was to occur, medical staff would be immediately available. All procedures are to the highest standard.
